My name is Ross O'Mullane and representing the Social Democrats I'm aiming to shake things up in Irish politics by getting elected as a TD for Dublin South-West in this November's General Election.
Ireland is a rich country but could be working so much better. We have full employment, but 500,000 adults are stuck living with their parents. We have enormous surpluses yet constant pressures on working families. We have all seen the government waste and the complete absence of any accountability.
I am asking for your number 1 vote so that we can put investment in supports for working families, fairness in society, and accountability at the heart of Government.
I am passionate about making our corner of Dublin a thriving place with comfortable housing, linked by world-class transport, with shared green spaces where community can flourish. I want to help create a society where everyone gets a fair go, on a planet where we all live sustainably.
Professionally I’ve worked in digital marketing for some of Ireland’s best known brands over the past 25 years. I want to bring this real-world experience into Irish politics. In 2009... [Read more: Meet Ross O'Mullane]
Ultimately I want a fairer Ireland, where everyone gets a fair go at life. To achieve this I believe we need to focus on the following policy areas:
Working families are the backbone of our country but face constant challenges. We will:
Cap childcare fees at €250 per month, build not-for-profit childcare facilities
Boost parental leave and payments
Ensure free schooling with no fees
Subsidise energy costs, and tackle insurance cartels
Establish an Independent Anti-Corruption Agency to combat white-collar crime & government waste
Reduce reliance on consultants, build-up internal expertise
Long-term joined-up thinking on rail: look at projects like Metro South West & other suburban railways
Improve bus services and reduce fares to €1
Ensure new bike lanes are thoughtfully implemented and safe
Build 50m pools, libraries, play grounds, and public spaces
Soundproof the M50
The government has adopted our Sláintecare roadmap, but we need a quicker rollout.
We can save the planet without reducing our quality of life
Almost everyone who gets involved loves it. Why is that? I guess it gives a sense of contributing to your area - your country. Maybe it’s a type of collective effervescence? Doing something you know to be adding positive value to your community gives people a real energy?
We’ve young adults at college all the way to retirees working on the campaign. And no matter your level of interest there’s lots of ways you can get involved from a couple of minutes a week to much longer if you’ve the time.
We’ve found WhatsApp communities are a great way of communicating with people in Dublin South West who are interested in the Social Democrats. They only take a second to join, and you can leave at any time. You’ll get updates from Ross on the campaign trail, and news and information relating to your area. We’ve broken the constituency down by postcode so the info will be most relevant to you.
They’re small communities right now - and we think that’s great so you can have genuine interactions with strangers before they become friends.

I wish policies and a great work ethic was all it took, alas it takes significant money for necessary evils like posters and flyers (it's next to impossible to get elected in Ireland without these.)
Bigger parties are well funded by special interest groups who they then represent. I'm trying to fund the €20k it costs to run in a general election by donations from constituents, so I can then represent the constituents. Radical, I know!
It's not rocket science but it does involve squeezed middle income households to open their wallets... thank you for anything you can do.
