Let's Build Our Future!

My name is Ross O'Mullane and representing the Social Democrats I'm aiming to shake things up in Irish politics by getting elected as a TD for Dublin South-West in this November's General Election.

Why should you care?

Let's Build a True Alternative.

Ireland is a rich country but could be working so much better. We have full employment, but 500,000 adults are stuck living with their parents. We have enormous surpluses yet constant pressures on working families. We have all seen the government waste and the complete absence of any accountability.

I am asking for your number 1 vote so that we can put investment in supports for working families, fairness in society, and accountability at the heart of Government.

My Top 3 Motivations

Affordable Housing

If we had WAY more affordable housing:
  • half a million adults wouldn't be stuck living with their parents.
  • people in their 20's wouldn't have to emigrate.
  • teachers, nurses and builders could live near where they work.

Helping Working Families

We can increase the quality of life for millions by offering:
  • Quality, free healthcare and well-funded disability services.
  • assistance for people with disabilities.
  • meaningful reductions in household bills.

Wild Government Spending

I envision a society where decision makers are held to account.
  • We have to break this culture of government waste just being "one of those things".
  • We need to challenge the status quo.
  • We need to reduce the reliance on consultants, and build up expertise.

Hi, I'm Ross O'Mullane

I am passionate about making our corner of Dublin a thriving place with comfortable housing, linked by world-class transport, with shared green spaces where community can flourish. I want to help create a society where everyone gets a fair go, on a planet where we all live sustainably.

  • born and bred in Rathfarnham
  • rented in Bushy Park House for years
  • was lucky to buy a house in Perrystown (Templeogue) in 2018 for my young family.
  • I know the constituency - I understand where people are coming from and “get” the issues of the area.

Professionally I’ve worked in digital marketing for some of Ireland’s best known brands over the past 25 years. I want to bring this real-world experience into Irish politics. In 2009... [Read more: Meet Ross O'Mullane]

About the social democrats

People-Focused Politics

The Social Democrats were founded in 2015 on the belief that we deserve and can have better. Better services for everyone and a better society like in other places specifically Scandinavian countries.

Top priorities include:
  • Joined-up thinking for a housing and infrastructure building spree
  • Supporting not squeezing working families - the backbone of our country
  • Quality, free healthcare and investing in disability services
  • Getting climate targets back on track by allocating additional €6.5 billion for wind farms and residential solar
  • Controlling Government’s Wild Spending with an Independent Anti-Corruption Agency
  • Sanctioning Israel, Freeing Palestine!

What does Ross O'Mullane stand for?

Ultimately I want a fairer Ireland, where everyone gets a fair go at life. To achieve this I believe we need to focus on the following policy areas:

Housing

  • Building 75,000 affordable homes over the next five years with a focus on affordable-purchase housing
  • Enhancing renter protections
  • Combating housing speculation with increased taxes on vacant homes and bulk purchases/vulture funds
  • Increasing taxes on derelict sites and vacant properties
  • Simplifying the planning and zoning systems

Helping Working Families

Working families are the backbone of our country but face constant challenges. We will:

  • Cap childcare fees at €250 per month, build not-for-profit childcare facilities

  • Boost parental leave and payments

  • Ensure free schooling with no fees

  • Subsidise energy costs, and tackle insurance cartels

Accountability

I envision a society where decision makers are held accountable. We will:
  • Establish an Independent Anti-Corruption Agency to combat white-collar crime & government waste

  • Reduce reliance on consultants, build-up internal expertise

Reform lobbying for greater transparency and trust in Irish politics

Infrastructure & Transport

  • Long-term joined-up thinking on rail: look at projects like Metro South West & other suburban railways

  • Improve bus services and reduce fares to €1

  • Ensure new bike lanes are thoughtfully implemented and safe

  • Build 50m pools, libraries, play grounds, and public spaces

  • Soundproof the M50

Healthcare & Disability Services

The government has adopted our Sláintecare roadmap, but we need a quicker rollout.

  • More longer-term thinking to
deliver world-class, accessible healthcare that's free at the point of need
  • Invest in disability services and address waiting lists for assessments
  • Double mental health budget

Climate

We can save the planet without reducing our quality of life

  • Invest €5 billion in a climate
    transformation fund focusing on
    off-shore wind farms
  • Ramp up the roll-out of residential
solar panels to 100,000 homes a
    year
  • If elected I will plant a tree for
    every first preference vote
    received

Let's Build the Future Together

Almost everyone who gets involved loves it. Why is that? I guess it gives a sense of contributing to your area - your country. Maybe it’s a type of collective effervescence? Doing something you know to be adding positive value to your community gives people a real energy?

We’ve young adults at college all the way to retirees working on the campaign. And no matter your level of interest there’s lots of ways you can get involved from a couple of minutes a week to much longer if you’ve the time.

Join our Community Groups on WhatsApp

We’ve found WhatsApp communities are a great way of communicating with people in Dublin South West who are interested in the Social Democrats. They only take a second to join, and you can leave at any time. You’ll get updates from Ross on the campaign trail, and news and information relating to your area. We’ve broken the constituency down by postcode so the info will be most relevant to you.

They’re small communities right now - and we think that’s great so you can have genuine interactions with strangers before they become friends.

Give Some Money

I wish policies and a great work ethic was all it took, alas it takes significant money for necessary evils like posters and flyers (it's next to impossible to get elected in Ireland without these.)

Bigger parties are well funded by special interest groups who they then represent. I'm trying to fund the €20k it costs to run in a general election by donations from constituents, so I can then represent the constituents. Radical, I know!

It's not rocket science but it does involve squeezed middle income households to open their wallets... thank you for anything you can do.

All that's left is to give me your first preference vote this November!

Thanks for visiting my website. Please spread the word and tell your friends and family to vote Ross O'Mullane number 1 in the general election.
